It’s official: we bought a house. It’s a beautiful disaster! A 1940s bungalow on a hill with good bones and bad everything else. The papers are signed, the truck is gone, I’m stealing wifi from the neighbors and we are sitting on the floor of the living room eating Thai food out of plastic containers.
I told my husband I was excited to get my first good night’s sleep after three months of escrow and house inspections, and he reminded me that we have no bed until the new mattress arrives tomorrow. So we’re kind of camping. And in the morning the work begins-- building, sanding, painting, gutting, climbing, drilling, crying, etc.
But for tonight it’s the two of us and a six pack (for him) and a pint of Ben and Jerry’s (for me), and I found the box with the record player. Thinking: this is the house where our kids will play, this is the yard where I’ll grow a garden, this is the room where we’ll have a real Christmas tree next year.
Thanks for being here. I’m going to try to post a couple times a week for the next year or so, while we convert this place from a total dump to an actual home. Hopefully I’ll learn a few things along the way.
If you know what you’re doing, PLEASE POST and tell me what we’re screwing up! 🙂
